I've been in the AV industry for over 20 years and have seen a lot of change. Those changes are part of what has kept me interested in this industry for so long. AV is always changing. Which is great, it keeps things fresh. One of our biggest changes has been happening over the past few years and that's Artificial Intelligence. AI is bringing huge changes to the quality of life we experience in our ever chaning AV world. Whether is the way a microphone selectively picks up and rejects sound in a room to the way a camera tracks the presenter or the participants at a conference room table. AI is in a lot of what we already do and it's definately having a positive impact on the AV systems that we are selling and installing. There is one area though that AI doesn't seem as prevenlent in and that's the consumer TV. The industry to seems to dable in bringing AI features into the consumer world but it seems to me that they are missing mark. What if instead of looking to add features to make a broadcast look or feel a certain way, we add features that allow those who are visually impared be able to experience a program the way those of who aren't visually impared are able to. For instance, look at sports. Back in the late 90's Fox introduced Foxtrac for their NHL broadcasts. This feature was put in place to help the fans be able to track the puck better during a televised hockey game. Unforunately this was not something the fans wanted at that time. It was quickly discarded and they went back to their regular broadcast without the glowing puck. While I understand why the average fan might not like this particular feature, someone with less than average vision may find this helpful to them during the broadcast. So, why not with the use of AI make this a feature you could turn on and off on your TV? Afterall, not everyone can be a the game which is the point of having it broadcast in the first place .....ok, commercials may actually be the reason why they broadcast games but why not add more viewers. Like any sensitive IT system, sound masking systems require a great deal of attention once the engineers are onsite installing it. I attended the #cloudnativemedia session when John Boero presented AV1, a while ago. Since then John has written up his experience with the AV1 codec whilst using the impressive AMD MA35D. Link to the post below. The AMD card runs at an impressive 1 watt per channel and can transcode video with low latency thanks to the dedicated ASICs, courtesy of the AMD acquisition of Xilinx. This card can capture 32x1080@30fps or 8x4K@15fps in AV1 at a super low data rate of ~2.0MB/s total. Compared this to other cards it can transcode more than an NVidia RTX4090 at 35watts! VENUE OWNERS - Considerations for selecting an audio system for your venue...read on.. 1. Do I need to plug in any additional audio equipment for a presentation or a DJ? Worth considering the installation of a few wall plates for audio hook up. 2. How can I select and control various music sources for my music system? This can be by a local controls at the amplifier, remote controls at the serving positions or by webapp control on a mobile device. 3. How do I stop my staff from playing their playlist instead of the one selected for the venue? A dedicated licensed music player can be provided at the audio rack with a playlist remotely configured by management. 4. I'm having trouble with my audio system and cannot remember how to switch from one music source to the other, what shall I do? Many audio systems can be remotely monitored by your AV installer, all it would then take is a phone call to assist with your music selection. 5. I don't want the music to play over a certain volume level until 6pm due to the office staff above my premises, how can I prevent this? Audio systems can be configured by programmable mixers and amplifiers to prevent this. 6. I'm looking for an audio installation company than can offer the above features to my audio system plus more, who shall I call?
